I have some "last minute" questions about the JD755. Can the 755 be used to plow a small garden? What kind of bushogging can I realistically do with it? I need someone to ensure me this tractor is more than a high dollar lawn mower. I am about to take the plunge and buy it. It has a "bushog" brand FEL, a Wood's mower(3pt hitch) and 60" belly mower. Will I need to purchase a 4 ft bushog? Thanks

My first tractor was a 755, 4x4. I plowed with a one bottom 14" plow, pulled a 5' disc, 50" tiller, 2 row dempster planter, 5' bush hog (4'would be better). In tall grass it was too much for it, but I could creep along and get by and I would take half swaths with it. thin weeds and grass it was fine. This has been my experice with a 20hp tractor. ....

I own a 755. If brush cutting is going to be a primary function taking up many hours a season, then you probably should aim for a larger tractor, at least 20 PTO HP, which would swing a 5' cutter.
I think the 755 is a great tractor, and it is definitely MUCH more than a high dollar lawn mower. It is truly a tractor, but definitely on the small end of the compact spectrum. There is absolutely no comparison to a garden tractor in terms of beef and brawn, only in terms of HP.
If your brush cutting jobs are not that big and the deal is such that you can justify buying a 4' cutter, then go for it. Otherwise go a little bigger.
If you buy it and are in the midwest and want to sell the belly mower, let me know. :)

My first compact 4x4 was that size - a little smaller actually - more like a JD 650. The keys are the 4wd and the loader. It sure did a lot of work. It will easily pull deep harrows or a single plow or a small set of disks. Anything it won't pull won't hurt it at all to try...You'll just spin the wheels. A 4 foot bush hog sounds about right. I'd rather have an implement a little on the small side and gear up than creep along bogging the machine.
If you are a person who likes to do a lot of work outside, a strong arguement in favor of a compact comes from thinking of how much a small front end loader can save your back. If it doesn't do the job, then resale is good.
